APCIR is committed to the preservation and development of the Icelandic horse breed, adhering to strict breeding standards. Our breeding regulations ensure that every stallion and mare used for reproduction is free from genetic defects and properly registered. We follow a structured evaluation system that ranks breeding horses according to FEIF/Icelandic breeding evaluation criteria, thereby ensuring the quality and uniformity of the breed.
Our breeding goals are clear: we define and maintain breeding standards, develop unique evaluation methods for Icelandic horses, and establish guidelines for breeding shows. We apply standardized rules for studbook registration and horse identification, while supporting national studbook management in member countries. Our primary goal is to protect genetic integrity and preserve the unique characteristics of the Icelandic horse for future generations.
In general, the FEIF breeding regulations aim to preserve and develop the Icelandic horse breed. Stallions and mares participating in breeding must be free from genetic defects, and individuals must be identified and registered at the national level and in the WorldFengur database according to FEIF regulations. Breeding horses are ranked based on the results of the FEIF - Icelandic Breeding Evaluation System.
